What's In My Bag? 2020 Edition

Posted by Nikki Bingham on

I am often asked what gear I use, so this is what is in my bag.

CAMERA

I now shoot exclusively with the amazing Nikon Z7. Nikon smashed it out of the park with this camera. It has exceptional image quality, amazing in camera stabilisation and is very weather resistant. Perfect for my style of shooting which is often very close to an unpredictable ocean. It's size and weight also held huge appeal for me - I'm very happy to lose the unnecessary weight from my bag.

LENSES

As you may have noticed, I love shooting wide angles so my most used lens is the Nikon Z 14-30mm f4 S Line lens. I also use the Z mount Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 with the Nikon FTZ adaptor and the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 lens. Next on my wish list, is the Z mount 24-70mm f/2.8 and the Z mount 70-200mm f/2.8

TRIPOD

As part of my mission to decrease the weight of all my gear, I recently invested in the Peak Design Travel Tripod. So far, I am very impressed with it. It's exceptionally light and compact, very easy to deploy and pack away and seems to handle the salt from the ocean very well. My only minor complaint is that you have to raise the centre column to mount the camera, which takes a while to get used to.

I also carry a small Manfrotto Pixi Mini Tripod. for when I want to capture very low angles and for locations that don't allow full size tripods.

DRONE

I occasionally use a drone - a Mavic Pro 2 as I am a little addicted to aerial top downs. The camera quality in this drone is surprisingly good for it's size and does the job for all of my aerial needs.

FILTERS

I only carry three filters with me, all 82mm screw on filters for my Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 lens. A circular polarizer, an ND 64 filter and an ND1000 filter.
